Caroline McAndrews

Caroline McAndrews is a consultant with over 15 years of experience in leadership development, program planning and assessment, communications, user-centered design, writing, and research in both the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. She’s worked with academics, activists, business and community members to explore questions such as how to develop the next generation of leadership, engage clients in social change, and build a systems approach to service work.

The author of several reports, including What Works: Developing Successful Multigenerational Leadership, and Structuring Leadership: Alternative Models for Distributing Power and Decision-Making in Nonprofit Organizations, Caroline most recently served as the Director of Research and Documentation for Building Movement Project. Prior to Building Movement, she was a member of the economic security team at the Ms. Foundation for Women, where she provided funding, technical assistance, and networking opportunities to nonprofits across the country working with women to start small businesses, organize for workers’ rights, and develop leadership in labor unions. Before working at the Ms. Foundation, Caroline served as the IDA Program Coordinator for Mid-Peninsula Housing Coalition, a low-income housing developer in Redwood City, California. She holds an MFA in Design for Social Innovation from the School of Visual Arts, and a BA in Urban Studies with a focus in architecture from Stanford University.
