Tanya Bhandari
Tanya Bhandari is a visual thinker from New Delhi, India. Her main interests lie in graphic design, photography, illustration and understanding people, but she believes in being a generalist, too. She is always trying to learn more about the different things design can do. As an undergrad in Graphic Design at the MIT Institute of Design, India, she spent a lot of time observing the different design disciplines being practiced around her. She also appreciates social and cultural diversity and, in her studies in New Delhi, Pune, and London, has always leaned towards community-based work. Tanya loves finding patterns in the way people interact and has worked on a range of projects from a systemic communication design perspective. She’s not afraid to roll up her sleeves, though, and also always relishes the chance to get her hands dirty with a project.
Since graduating from DSI, she has worked at UNICEF’s Office of Innovation in New York (focusing on starting up and scaling innovative technology for children), and at YLabs in San Francisco (working in the adolescent sexual reproductive health and economic empowerment space.) Tanya has also had the opportunity to provide support as a teacher’s assistant at NYU ITP and SVA DSI in New York. In 2017, she was awarded the Public Access Design fellowship at the Center for Urban Pedagogy where worked on communicating the U.S. immigration process. Currently she is a Design Lead at YLabs in Kigali, Rwanda.
