Lorena Estrella
Lorena (MFA DSI ’20 alum) is a first generation Dominican-American multidisciplinary artist, facilitator and social designer. She believes in the power of design to heal and build power with communities. Her design practice centers equity, joy, liberation and creativity. Lorena brings her experience from the education, youth development and non-profit sectors to imagine new and old ways of being and building beloved community.
Currently, Lorena is building the design capacity of Black parents & caregivers through Parenting for Liberation’s Innovation Lab which provides financial support and design training for parents to launch their dream community-based projects. Lorena also works with small organizations to design programs, events, visuals, and everything in-between.
Lorena completed a MFA degree in Design for Social Innovation at the School of Visual Arts and holds a BA from Wesleyan University in Printmaking and Latin American Studies. Lorena loves breakfast any time of day, fresh flowers, slow travel, all things letterpress, making zines and scribbling poems.
