Miya Osaki & Zahra Bukhari at IxDA

The IxDA conference is a call to rethink decision-making processes that drive the design of technology. Interaction design, together with other fields, faces the role of technology in perpetuating social and environmental injustice.
Interaction Week 23 brings together over 90 speakers from diverse backgrounds to celebrate and promote the work shaping interaction design today.

DSI Chair Miya Osaki and Zahra Bukhari (MFA DSI ’22) will be presenting on “Designing with Care: Virtual Healing Spaces”.

Zahra’s Thesis project, “Sultana’s Dreamers” is a creative healing collective co-created by South Asian-American daughters of immigrants. Empowered by the short story Sultana’s Dream by Begum Rokeya, this group gathered in a virtual community to reimagine a future inspired by the women in their past. In strengthening our creative, cultural intuition to gather, tell stories, and make, they began the work of intergenerational healing as daughters and ancestors.
