What if you could scan objects in your kitchen and hear the voices of people you’ve never known? What if you could share something intimate with someone who is supposed to be your enemy, without even meeting? Hummbowls are storytelling tableware, co-designed and exchanged between people from the Middle East and inspired by common hummus rituals. In each bowl, someone’s dipping style and narrative is preserved and shared. You can use the bowl for whatever purpose – although really, the best use for it would be eating hummus.
Liora Yuklea
Liora Yuklea is a designer from Israel. She graduated from the Visual Communications Department at the Holon Institute of Technology’s School of Design. After graduation, she worked as a graphic designer at the Ha’aretz daily newspaper and at Calcalist, a leading financial newspaper. She has also designed independently for the Association of Civil Rights in Israel, the Ministry of Construction and Housing, the Social Guard civilian government monitoring organization, and the J14 Israeli social justice movement, with whom she has also been an activist since 2011, participating in the development of non-hierarchical decision making processes and creative activism. She’s travelled all over Central and South America, India, Europe, and the United States. She came to DSI to apply her design abilities more strategically to her making-the-world-a-better-place agenda and to better combine the two into a career and sustainable way of life.
Since graduating, Liora Yuklea moved back home to Israel, where she is a Senior Product Designer and UX Lead at Google’s Crisis Response team which focuses on global information needs in times of crisis. Before diving into the world of earthquakes, wildfires, floods and pandemics she worked with companies and organisations such as ZenCity, MindCET, the UN’s Big Data for Development lab and the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC. She also teaches Design Thinking and Strategy at the Design and Innovation Management M.Des program at the Bezalel Academy of Art & Design.
