Hao Jie Sim (MFA DSI ’26) with NextOfKin Creatives wins President’s Design Awards Singapore Design of the Year 2025

The NextOfKin Creatives team, including Hao Jie Sim (MFA DSI ’26), won the Design of the Year 2025 Award from the President’s Design Awards Singapore. Their winning design, Silver Pride Lion Troupe pilot programme, gives “seniors the chance to become lion dance performers in a safe and inclusive manner.”

This design embodies social design and the work we commit to at MFA Design for Social Innovation, as it considers the growing aging population in Singapore and reflects how to use design to support this community, ensuring they can age healthily and happily.

The President’s Design Awards Singapore describe the design as:

“a groundbreaking initiative that redefines active aging by integrating Singapore’s cultural heritage into senior engagement. By adapting lion dance – a tradition deeply rooted in physicality and community – the project provides an innovative and culturally resonant way to promote physical well-being, social connection, and skill-building, particularly among hard-to-reach male seniors.”
