Bhavya Chaudhary (MFA DSI ’24)
Bhavya Chaudhary is working as the Prevention and Outreach Coordinator at the Hudson Speaks Program under the CarePoint Health System in Jersey City, New Jersey. She leads initiatives to prevent sexual violence, strengthen community engagement, and build supportive networks across Hudson County. Her work reflects a deep commitment to fostering safer, more informed, and resilient communities.
Bhavya Chaudhary, originally from Haryana, India, pursued a Bachelor of Design in Ceramic and Glass Design at the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad. After starting her career as an Industrial Designer, she soon shifted her focus to collaborating with traditional crafts communities in Haryana, creating sustainable systems and products. This shift reinforced her belief in design as a tool for social and economic change.
Seeking to deepen her impact, Bhavya pursued a Master of Fine Arts in Design for Social Innovation at the School of Visual Arts. Her thesis, “Begumpura: A Land Without Sorrows,” in collaboration with Moving Rasa, attempted to create safe spaces for the NYC Indian Dalit diaspora to share resilience and navigate caste apartheid through storytelling, improv, and reflective writing. Her approach blends trauma-informed principles, participatory design, and systems thinking to address complex societal issues.
Bhavya remains deeply connected to her roots and continues to work with communities in India and the USA to promote social justice, caste equity, gender equity, sustainable development, and cultural preservation. She views joy as an act of resistance—whether through movement, art, or self-care as it challenges the narratives of oppression by fostering healing, strength, and empowerment.
