Preservation is a practice of memory.

MFA Design for Social Innovation, in collaboration with Grey Area Collective, is hosting a Preservation Workshop: Syrian Traditions of Olive Oil & Fermentation.

Join for a hands-on workshop where we learn Syrian preservation traditions — to carry care, culture, and memory forward.

In Syria, families learned to stretch sunlight through the cold months — turning olives, herbs, and vegetables into small acts of resilience.

This workshop is an invitation to do the same: to hold what nourishes us, to learn from ancestral genius, and to preserve more than food — to preserve care, culture, and connection.

In this workshop, we’ll explore two timeless Syrian methods of preservation:
• Using Fat (Olive Oil) – the lifeblood of Syrian cuisine.
• Using Bacteria (Fermentation) – the invisible ally that transforms flavor.
