Last week, after nearly two years of virtual lectures, zoom town halls and talent shows, across a wide array of time zones, we officially welcomed both our first and second year students into the physical DSI studio for the first time.
Despite some obstacles, including the remnants of Hurricane Ida hitting NYC mid-week, we kicked off Jump-Start–our annual DSI orientation–with the help of Marc Rettig, Hanna du Plessis, Jeralyn Richardson (‘18), and Jiayi Dong (‘19). We also had ‘21 alum Bridget Qian help decorate the space with a chalkboard mural articulating some key DSI values and doodles. Our all-star team helped ease us all back into the space, introduce the cohorts to one another and begin to establish our goals and values for the semester.
At the end of the week, we were glad to have faculty join us for a meet-and-greet, where we all had the opportunity to get to know one another with a design-inspired bingo board.
We’re so glad to be back together in community at DSI, and are looking forward to the year ahead of us!
