This past week, Baitian Yu (‘20) presented a selection of works from his thesis, “Talking to the Blue”, to the public at an NYC gallery. Some of the pieces in the collection are also currently on display at Lankai Gallery in Anshan, China, which you can read more about here. All artworks displayed across both galleries can be found here.
The overall goal of “Talking to the Blue” as a thesis is to provide young artists in Northeast China with information and opportunity in the field of contemporary art by facilitating a sustainable channel of communication in a time of confusion. The exhibition in NYC, which featured a collection of contemporary painting, sculpture, and textile art by these young artists, allowed them to receive feedback from the New York art community. When explaining his hope for the showcase, Baitian emphasized his “hope to help young artists in Northeast China and build a bridge between them and the outside world–by getting exposure and support from all over the world, we can improve their creative confidence.”
Baitian curated the exhibition as a collaboration between SVA’s MFA Fine Arts program, Starta Arta, the Lankai Gallery, and the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts.
