We would like to congratulate our very own DSI recipients of the SVA Alumni Scholarship Award Fund award, Lauren Gardner, Caroline McAndrews, and Ivan Boscariol! This year, 67 students were chosen from a pool of over 300 applicants, and were awarded scholarships worth more than $80,000 for their final year at SVA to aid in the completion of final thesis/portfolio projects.
All three students are in the throes of thesis, with final presentations at the end of April. Thesis partners Lauren and Caroline are currently prototyping CommonBond, a tool that builds cross-class relationships between parents whose children attend diverse school or after-school programs. Their objective is to develop an intervention that encourages increased diversity and integration in education.
Following in the vein of education, Ivan’s thesis focuses on curriculum development for middle and high schools helping to combat the stigma of “corrective action” that anti-bullying programs sometimes carry. Comprised of experiential learning exercises, the educational tools will be free and accessible to all institutions. Ivan is currently about to pilot the program with four schools in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Stay-tuned for more to come on these, as well as many other amazing thesis projects in the making.
