Jake Porway loves all thing related to pattern recognition and data visualization and is the founder of DataKind, an organization that helps non-profit organizations visualize and more effectively use their data. Jake previously worked at the New York Times Research & Development group – where, among other pursuits, he explored the relationships between social media and news sharing – and UtopiaCompression, where he lead and participated in machine learning and computer vision projects. Through internships and collaborations, he’s also worked at Google and Bell Laboratories, as well as contracting projects with the Office of Naval Research, DARPA, and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. At home, Jake is an abiding fan of art and socially responsible living, loves learning new languages and musical instruments, and lives with a very fat cat.
