For three days last week, the design world in New York got brighter, especially twenty-third and twenty-fourth streets in the SVA neighborhoods of Chelsea.
Doug Powell was in town, as a keynote speaker at the Measured Summit, and as a guest at the DSI Wednesday Guest Lecture class. Doug founded one of the country’s most respected design firms, then went on to serve as the National President of AIGA, and as if that weren’t enough, is currently one three Distinguished Designers at IBM, where he is busily changing the nature and culture of global corporations today.
Doug talked about his work at IBM, the different ways they define design and design thinking, why this is a TERRIBLY WONDERFUL time to be a designer (why we shouldn’t count on that lasting forever), and why a career at IBM might be one of the most exciting things one can do with their future.
Thank you Doug, it was inspiring, and we’re grateful.
